MARIA ELENA B. HERRERA, FASP, PhD
Professor Herrera, an actuary, a management consultant, a teacher and a writer. She is currently the Research Director of RVR Center for Corporate Social Responsibility. She is also a core faculty of the Executive Education and Lifelong Learning Center at Asian Institute of Management (AIM). Her fields of expertise are Strategy, Finance and Organization Development. Her areas of practice and research includes: Enterprise Risk Management, Health Policy and Finance, Governance of Family Corporations, Corporate Social Responsibility, Entrepreneurship, Business and Social Innovation.
She is Managing Director of Solutions Incorporated (an Abelica Global firm), a management consulting firm that specializes in providing actuarial services, technical advice to financial security companies, employee benefits and risk management advice. Prof. Herrera has been in the training and consulting field since 1989. She provides technical advice as well as facilitation, training and executive coaching services.
Prof. Herrera’s published work includes contributions to local and international publications, scholarly articles, practitioner references and popular articles. Her published work covers the areas of leadership, strategy, risk management, corporate social responsibility, innovation, family corporations and health policy. Her recent contributions are Social Innovation: Business Invention and Social Solutions (2012) , Developing an Integrated BOP Engagement Strategy (2012) Towards Strategic CSR: A Manual for Practitioners (2011), The World Guide to CSR (2010), and Doing Good in Business Matters (2007).
She holds a PhD in Organization Development (2009) from the South East Asia Interdisciplinary Development Institute, a Master’s degree in Actuarial Mathematics (1982) from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics (Cum Laude, 1981) from the University of the Philippines. She is a fellow of the Actuarial Society of the Philippines and has served in various capacities in its Board of Governors.
